Welcome to the Toolkit

These resources have been developed and refined over many years to help you run your Parent Club.

We know it’s not easy and parent volunteers are often negotiating new territory when they take on a Parent Club role, whether it’s dealing with finances, running meetings, doing publicity, and all those other jobs…

We hope you find these resources useful!

Sections of the toolkit

  • Role of the Parent Club: how the Parent Club contributes to the school community, relationships with School Council and school administration, providing a forum for parents. Includes a guide to the Education Department and other relevant websites.
  • Build participation: Keeping in touch with members, promotion and publicity.
  • Leadership: Roles on your Committee, decision-making and inclusive leadership.
  • Meetings: How to get the best out of meetings. Effective planning and follow-up, how to run an effective and inclusive meeting, creative ideas to make meetings engaging and productive.
  • Finances: How to manage your finances, do fundraising and comply with Department Regulations
  • Regulations: The regulations governing Parent Clubs, rules around Constitutions and information on some tricky situations such as merging schools or winding up a Parent Club.
  • Planning: Tips on planning ahead to maximise what you can achieve.

Help us keep the Toolkit up to date

We will do our best to ensure the information in this Toolkit remains current and an authoritative source of advice. Member clubs are encouraged to give feedback and to contribute practical material likely to be of use to other parent clubs. Parents Victoria welcomes feedback on this current version of the kit.
To provide feedback or provide a resource for us to use, contact our Communications Officer Alan Davies.
