This video webinar presentation from John Hendry OAM covers some of the central elements of Relationship based Education, based on the key principle that wellbeing is fundamental to learning. John speaks from his long experience as an educator, including his work on creating a positive school culture as Director of Student Welfare at Geelong Grammar School.
Topics
Some of the major topics are:
- The 5 elements of a quality relationship (starts at 6 min 30 sec)
- Creating a kind and resilient school culture (starts at 15 min 30 sec)
- ‘Me first’ vs ‘We first’ culture (starts at 25 min)
John commented after the webinar:
The key point is that the culture of a school will determine engagement, purpose, connection, performance and importantly the health and wellbeing of students, teachers and school leaders. A quality relationship-based culture is resilient, kind, forgiving and fully enabling for all. It provides a sense of safely and a sense of connection that generates a peace of mind and a belief that all contribution is valued. All feel connected, protected and respected.
