Parents Voice in Government School Education

Your kids can create a family memoir

The Chapters of Our Lives is an online course that will guide your child through the process of interviewing family members and creating a family memoir. The course is suitable for families with children who are early readers and writers all the way through to teens. All the kids in your family can participate in different ways, perhaps with older siblings supporting younger ones.

How it works

A series of videos and guide books will take your child/ren through the process. They will select family members to interview, (with or without the parents’ help), and document the interviews however they choose (e.g. audio recording, video recording, notes).
When your project is finished, you will have a family memoir to keep for the future, in whatever format you’ve chosen, and you can even publish your work in a printed book.
The process has many benefits; it brings families together and develops children’s literacy skills – and it’s fun!

Free access (conditions apply)

Chapters of Our Lives has been developed by our good friend Dr Debbie Pushor from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Find out more on Debbie’s website.
Normally the course costs $200 but Parents Victoria has secured a limited number of free places for families with a child at a Victorian government school.
