Parents Voice in Government School Education

Vale Heather Murray

We note with sadness that Heather Murray passed away recently.

Heather was a member of the Executive of Parents Victoria (then known as the Victorian Federation of State School Parents Clubs) from 1970 to 1980.  She was Honorary Secretary from 1973 to 1980, editor of the magazine for several years, and the author of a brief history of the organisation to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in 1975.

She later represented the organisation as a member of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Board from 1986 to 1993.

In 1995 Heather co-authored a history of Frankston High School, of which she was a former pupil. In 1996 she archived all of the Federation’s records for the previous 70 years.

Heather was awarded one of Parents Victoria’s inaugural Life Memberships in 2010. Her contribution was unique; Heather was also inducted into the Parents Victoria Hall of Fame, the only person to have received this honour so far.

We are very grateful for Heather’s immense contribution of time and expertise to Parents Victoria. Heather will be sadly missed.
