Who can be a member of the Parent Club?
The Model Constitution states that: “Membership shall be open to any parent or guardian of a child attending the school or any other interested individual of the immediate school community. “
Can school staff be members of the Parent Club?
A school staff member who is a parent or guardian of a child at the school can register as a Parent Club member.
However, if that staff member has a professional role only (no parent/guardian role) at the school, they can’t register as a Parent Club member.
What is the role of the principal?
The principal may play an important role in the Parent Club. The principal may be invited to attend Parent Club meetings to give a report and take questions. The principal is often called on to conduct the committee elections at the Parent Club AGM.
However, the principal cannot be a member of the Parent Club. They are not entitled to vote and cannot be counted towards a quorum.
Applying for membership
The membership form attached to the Model Constitution must be used to apply for membership. Once the form is submitted at the AGM or any general meeting, the applicant is a member until the next AGM. All memberships must be renewed annually, at or after the AGM. For your convenience, we have made the application form available for download. You will need to replace the red placeholder text with the name of your Parent Club. A membership fee is not required – simply registering for membership is sufficient.
Membership records
Your club membership records can be stored on paper at the school, or in digital form and accessible upon request.
Maintaining membership records is the responsibility of the Secretary.
Voting rights for new members
Note that there are different rules for new members’ voting rights at a General Meeting, as opposed to the AGM.
- If you register at the AGM, you can vote immediately.
- If you register at a General Meeting, you are not entitled to vote until the next General Meeting.
