Parents Victoria has made a submission to an inquiry on ‘school refusal’, held by the Senate Standing Committee on Education and Employment in 2022/23.
Our submission covers:
- The importance of recognising the central role of relationships in education
- The need for schools and parents to work together to address problems, rather than trying to assign blame
- The link between bullying and school refusal
- A suggestion that Family Engagement Officers in schools would be an effective way to address many problems facing school students, and would also take the pressure off teachers.
