Public schools will be under-funded by over $6 billion a year between 2023 and 2028, totalling nearly $39 billion over six years, whilst private schools will remain overfunded by nearly $3 billion. That’s according to a report by economist Adam Rorris, released in November 2023. The report urges the Commonwealth and State Governments to ensure that new funding agreements fix these funding shortfalls.
The report, titled How school funding fails public schools: How to change for the better, also documents:
- The development (and shredding) of the Schooling Resource Standard (SRS) for needs-based funding of schools
- Accounting ‘trickery’ that has destroyed the integrity of the SRS
- What under-funding means for public schools
- Four steps to deliver 100% for 100% of schools by 2028.
