Parents Voice in Government School Education

Funding letter to Jason Clare

Along with seven other parent groups, Parents Victoria has written to Federal Education Minister Jason Clare to call for full funding of government schools – now.

The letter points out that:

The Australian Education Act 2013 obligates the Australian government to provide needs-based funding to schools that is fair. As you have acknowledged, Australian government schools have been underfunded for decades. We assert that it is time to correct this deficiency, and we believe that the Commonwealth government is in the best position to drive this result.

The letter urges the Federal Government to:

  • Increase its share of SRS funding of government schools to at least 25%
  • Get rid of accounting anomalies that disadvantage government schools
  • Create an infrastructure fund to address historic under-investment in government school facilities.
