Before you suspend the club’s operations, think about whether you could keep going by re-distributing the workload – perhaps chairing the meetings and other tasks could be rotated amongst your committee members so that nobody takes on too much work. See our page on Struggling to attract volunteers.
We know that sometimes, despite your best efforts, there are just not enough volunteers and the Parent Club – for the moment – cannot function.
We strongly suggest you do not dissolve the club.
The Parent Club can be put into recession instead – that is, it suspends operations but does not dissolve.
If this is necessary, we suggest you hold a meeting of all members, vote to suspend the club’s operations, and inform the principal. However, even if the club simply stops all activities, it still exists unless it has been formally dissolved (see below).
What is required to dissolve a Parent Club?
There is a mandatory process for dissolution of a Parent Club. It can only be done by convening a meeting of the school community. The school principal does not have the authority to dissolve a Parent Club. See the DE Policy and Advisory Library for full details.
