A group of parents has started an online petition, calling on Premier Ben Carroll to fully fund Victorian public schools.
The petition, from the Education Advocacy Group, points out that:
- Victoria currently has the second lowest-funded public schools in Australia.
- All other states and territories in Australia have signed long term agreements with the Federal Government to properly fund schools to 100% of the Schooling Resource Standard. Despite being in office since the SRS was established, the Victorian Labor Government has failed to do so.
It also details the real-world impact of the under-funding of our public schools, such as fewer teachers, a narrower curriculum, less allied health support, and immense pressure on school leadership and education support staff.
