It’s time we talked is a violence prevention initiative that supports young people, parents, schools, government and the community sector to understand and address the influence of pornography.
The project’s Director, Maree Crabbe, has worked with young people – and on issues affecting young people – since 1993.
Speaking about why she established It’s time we talked, Maree said, ‘I noticed that porn was increasingly playing a role in how young people learn about, think about and experience sexuality. The young people I worked with were keen to talk about porn, but the adults in their lives often had no idea about porn’s prevalence or influence – and those who did often didn’t feel equipped to have the conversations.’
The website has a section for parents, with information about the prevalence of pornography among young people, its negative impacts and most importantly, advice on what parents can do about it.
