The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is the agency responsible for the design and build of new schools – and much more!
The VSBA is part of the Department of Education and has managed the building and maintenance of Victorian public schools since 2016. Since then, the Authority has opened, on average, 11 new schools per year.
The VSBA also manages:
- Upgrades and expansion projects for existing schools – more than 2,200 were underway in 2025.
- New facilities for schools such as gyms and sports ovals, rooms for health services, theatres etc.
- Emergency maintenance for schools damaged by natural disasters and other unforeseen issues.
- Relocatable buildings for emergencies and to manage spikes in student enrolments.
