The Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative provides funding to schools to employ a Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader, who will then lead a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing at their school.
The MHiPS initiative was run as a pilot program from from 2020 to 2022, by the Victorian Department of Education in partnership with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) and the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Education.
Following the success of the pilot, MHiPS has been expanded statewide. By 2026, every eligible government and low-fee non-government primary school across Victoria will be funded to deliver MHiPS.
These 2 short videos introduce the program.
Case studies
The Department of Education has showcased the success of the MHiPS program in a series of short Case Study videos. Here’s the first one, focusing on Lucas Primary School in Ballarat.
