Families from refugee backgrounds

Foundation House resources

The Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture (Foundation House) has created a guide to help schools engage with parents from refugee backgrounds.

The guide includes practical and useful information on:

  • Overcoming language and cultural barriers
  • Transitions
  • Parent-teacher interviews
  • Supporting parents to help their children at home
  • Welcoming parents into the school and their child’s classroom.

The guide was created in collaboration with a range of stakeholder groups including the Education Department.
