This article is a transcript of a speech given on 18 February by Trevor Cobbold of Save Our Schools, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Gonski Report.
Trevor says Gonski was “a watershed in the history of school funding in Australia because it made equity in education the centrepiece of education policy. Its legacy is enduring as its guiding principles provide the foundation to build an education system to improve equity in education.”
Trevor’s article goes on to point out flaws in the report, details how it was sabotaged by the Abbott and Turnbull governments and examines the widening inequity between private and public schools in the last 10 years. The article ends with a very strong message: we need to get Gonski back on track.
