Parents Victoria respectfully acknowledges the traditional owners, the Boon Wurrung and Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) peoples of the Kulin Nation, on whose country we work. We pay our respect to their elders past, present and future.
Their ancestral ties to country have never been extinguished, and sovereignty never ceded.

There has been some media coverage of a suggestion that a system of fines for online defamation could be introduced. The suggestion was made by the Chair of the Independent Office of School Dispute Resolution, Frank Handy, as reported in this article in the Age. Frank Handy also spoke to Chris Bath on ABC Radio Sydney.
While the suggestion has been prompted by an increase in parents making inflammatory online comments about school staff, it’s important to note that the suggested fine system was not limited to parents, but would be a “society wide statute.”
The issue was covered in a report on Channel 9 News, which included an interview with Parents Victoria CEO Gail McHardy. (Skip to 1 min 8 sec to see Gail’s comments. Note that the reporter mistakenly identifies Gail as heading “the organisation that represents principals” … that should be “parents”.)
