Parents Voice in Government School Education

2026 enrolment information and resources

The Department of Education has published enrolment information and resources to support schools and their community with 2026 enrolments.

This includes information and resources on:

  • School zones
  • Foundation (Prep) enrolment
  • Year 7 enrolment.

 School zones

School zones for 2026 are now available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au. This includes the school zones for 17 new schools and information on the 2 new specialist schools opening in 2026. The Find my School website allows you to find your local (zoned) school, other nearby government schools, and your closest specialist education options based on your address.

A child has the right to attend their local school. You can also apply to a school that is not your local school. The school should enrol your child if there is a place available.

For more information, visit: www.vic.gov.au/school-zones

Foundation (Prep) enrolment

Enrolments for Foundation (Prep) 2026 in Victorian government schools open from Tuesday 22 April 2025 (the start of term 2).

If your child will be 5 years old by 30 April 2026, they can start primary school next year. Make sure to submit your application to a government primary school by Friday 25 July 2025. Enrolling early ensures your child gets the best start possible to their school education.

Schools will notify you in writing of the outcome of your application between Monday 28 July 2025 and Friday 8 August 2025 (if you apply by Friday 25 July 2025). If you receive an enrolment offer you should respond to the offer by Friday 22 August 2025.

For more information, visit: www.vic.gov.au/enrolling-foundation-prep

You can access the enrolment information pack for parents and carers on this website. This pack includes an application form. A fact sheet and poster are also available in more than 40 languages.

Year 7 enrolment

If your child is starting Year 7 at a government secondary school next year, you will need to apply for enrolment by Friday 9 May 2025.

The pack for parents and carers is available on www.vic.gov.au/moving-primary-secondary-school-information-parents-and-carers

Your child’s primary school may also give you this pack. This pack includes the application form.

If your child is moving from a government primary school, you should complete the form and return it to your child’s primary school. If your child is moving from a non-government primary school or is home schooled, you should return the form to your preferred secondary school.

You will receive notification of your child’s Year 7 placement offer on Tuesday 1 July 2025.

A fact sheet summarising the process is available in 10 languages on www.vic.gov.au/moving-primary-secondary-school-information-parents-and-carers
